Our Horses
Seahorse
Seahorse was born on March 9th of 2016 in Virgina. His mom's name is
"Clononeen Cottage", and his dad's is "WCF King of hearts". My
friend bought him as a baby (her name was Kelli Sanders). When he
turned two years old, she sent him to a different farm to begin his
training; he was there for a month when she called me and asked me
to go pick him up to continue his training; she had decided that she
needed to sell him, so I was put in charge of continuing his
training, taking him places, and marketing him for sale.
I remember
driving to pick him up and asking her "Oh, by the way, what is his
name?" She said "Seahorse!"; I almost choked on my soda... I was
giggling so hard... When i got him home and rode him for the first
time, I felt like a princess on a magical unicorn; he was so cute; I
groomed him, and trained him, we went on adventures, trail riding,
foxhunting, dressage shows, doing tadpole classes... Eventually, it
was time to list him for sale. Our next show was the state fair of
Virginia in 2019; we did so well, we won most of our classes and
became the "Reserve Champion Draft Horse in Hand" for that year. At
that competition, there was an event called "Cowboy Action
Shooting", where guns were shot while galloping at targets.
Seahorse
was young (only 2 years old) and all of that shooting was going on
right next door to us, and he looked interested, but not concerned;
he wasn't scared; he did not care, and that was the perfect example
of what a good mind he had, and I thought "Wow, what a great horse".
You can't train or condition a horse to have a good mind; they
automatically just have it or they don't. In that moment, I knew I
wanted him to stay with me, and we made it happen; I purchased
Seahorse and he stayed with me; he stayed there at "Bear Garden"
with me until we moved to Ashland. We continued to go hunting, to go
showing, and just having all kinds of fun together; he loved riding
down to the river and splashing and playing; we went to the deep run
horse trials that Spring as well; we competed in a low division for
babies; he got such a great dressage score... My best ever; it was
something that I'll remember for the rest of my life; not only was
it a great score, we won the competition, and since I was a college
student at VCU, I was representing my college. Then, we left
Virginia. He moved to Michigan to stay with my mom while my husband
and I traveled around the country. While he was there, he took my
mom for rides and took care of her, helping her gain confidence and
have fun. Then, in 2023, it was time for him and I to be together
again; he came down to Virginia to "Foxgrove Farm" with Sue, and
stayed there while I was on an work assignment in Chantilly. We even
got to go to a little jumper show at a fancy showground, there in
VA, where we got some good ribbons, had fun and got back in the show
ring. When our time in Chantilly was done, we moved to Maryland and
Seahorse came with us; he's now at a beautiful barn; he met a new
best friend named "Wash"; they play, and play and play, and run
around, and have the best time. Recently, a new friend moved in and
he became best friends with him, too; his name is "Hummer". Now we
spend our days going on gentle trail rides, learning new things and
trying to learn them together in the most happy and comfortable way.
He spends his days with his two friends (Wash and Hummer), and I
think it's the happiest he's ever been (I know it is for me).
